Extras - Winter Pruning

Winter Pruning

Until 2006 I lived in an old house in Norfolk, a house that had been a row of cottages at one time. The modern garden still bore the traces of the old cottage gardens and still possessed some wizened old apple trees.
Apple trees need to be pruned every year, in the winter,
to encourage new and healthy growth and fruit.

It was a job I always enjoyed, but the combination of being up a ladder (see Climb Not) and the dread of slicing my cold fingers off with a pair of secateurs obviously affected my mind, because I am sure that I thought of this story whilst snip-snipping those twigs.
