Extras - The Demon Bench End

The Demon Bench End

I have had this story in my mind for many years and have written at least two other (unpublished) versions of it. The genesis of this tale was a visit to Blythburgh church in Suffolk and the wonderful carved bench ends there. Go and see that if you are in the area. If not, have a look at suffolkchurches.co.uk/Blythburgh.htm

I am not sure where the idea of the jabbering demon comes from. There is a visual device used in illustration and cinema of someone with a devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other, both dispensing advice. This is a story that does away with the angel.
